How to Please Clients.

So, March madness is well underway-- No, I'm not talking about my least-favorite sport basketball... I'm talking about my own private tournament. As you may know, I am in the midst of the busiest few weeks of my life. Coordinating schedules between four different clients can be tricky, but I'm going to let you in on a little secret: If you are nice to clients, they will be nice to you. Make sure that you let them know you know what you are talking about--that you are going to take care of them regardless of the fact that you are busy. People always tell me that I need to prioritize, but when it comes to clients nobody has priority. Granted, some clients require more attention than others, but this does not mean that other clients aren't getting equal share of my mind.

Things have really begun to fall into place for A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum at Palos Verdes High School. We're loading-in on Saturday and I expect that it will go smoothly. I'll be in tech for Forum for a week, then the Palos Verdes kids are on spring break for a week. Normally, I wouldn't be happy about taking a break in the middle of the tech process, but the break will afford me some time to see some run-throughs of my next show Curse of the Flightless, an original play by Ian Arthur Swanson at Cal. State Fullerton's Grand Central Theatre in Santa Ana. That week should be enough time to see the show, develop a plan, and plot and color the show. I'll also spend time that week putting the finishing touches on the First Evangelical Free Church of Fullerton's Journey to the Cross show.

The week after that (the week of April 10th) is going to be the "fun" week. I'm back into dress rehearsals for Forum so, I will be in Palos Verdes from 3:00pm-6:00pm. Straight after that I'm sprinting over to Santa Ana for Curse of the Flightless tech rehearsals at 6:45pm. (I probably won't get there until 7, or 7:15.) Whenever I get done with Flightless techs, probably at 11:00pm, I'll head over to the church to focus lights for Journey to the Cross. By the way, if you are interested in coming to any of the shows I mention here, email me at scott@scottshiba.com.

I'll be sure to let you know how things are going, as I have time to post more details. Until then, take care!

My Life

Well, this is my first official blog entry. It's not my first ever blog, I've done my share of that on MySpace but that was mostly intended to harass people about MySpace. Sure, there will be plenty of that here, but I feel the need to just talk about what I do, in case anyone cares.

Today, I just finished up The Jungle Book for Harbor View Elementary School in Corona Del Mar, CA. I had my reservations when we started to load in the equipment but things came together pretty well. Thanks to an unusually nice lunch lady, we had just enough power to make the meager lighting system work. For this show, I used an ETC SmartPack, in conjunction with LSC 4x1.2's (20A total), and Elation Uni-Packs. I also got a Lycian 1200w spot. (overkill, but the rental house didn't have anything smaller that wasn't 1000w incan.)

Saturday it's all about my newest client, who is doing a pretty serious upgrade on their building... Here's the trick, it all has to be ready for Easter Sunday! Let's just say that it is going to be insane getting equipment, and new hanging positions on such a tight schedule.

In the next month, I'll be doing several shows for the First Evangelical Free Church of Fullerton, and Palos Verdes High School. Come back for more details about these, and pictures!
